Mandatory Backstrap Requirement for Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 APEX Kits
The proprietary structural retention system engineered into the META Tactical APEX Conversion Chassis relies heavily on locking onto the precise geometry of your handgun's factory beavertail and backstrap frame area. For this reason, you cannot utilize random aftermarket configurations or varying factory shims.
To achieve a proper mechanical lock-up and avoid frame damage, you MUST install the factory “M” (Medium) size backstrap onto your Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 frame prior to inserting it into the APEX kit.

Watch our armorer demonstrate how to locate sizing stamps, confirm backstrap configurations, and prepare your M&P 2.0 frame on the bench:
🔍 How to Identify the "M" Medium Marking
Smith & Wesson prints size descriptors directly onto their factory components. To ensure you have the mandatory Medium spacer mounted, check the following frame locations:
Internal Panel Stamping: Look at the hidden internal matching surface or lower interior tongue of the removable backstrap sleeve; it will feature a molded letter "M".
External Textured Margins: Check along the seam margins near the top curve of the grip pane where it meets the polymer frame lines.
🛑 Warning on Non-Compliant Sizes: Attempting to force your M&P 2.0 into the APEX kit while utilizing "S" (Small), "ML" (Medium-Large), or "L" (Large) factory backstraps will create structural alignment blocks. This will cause the firearm to sit incorrectly, resulting in frame play, slide drag, or a complete failure of the primary lock-up system.
